At the beginning of their wedding planning journey, many of our couples find themselves wondering whether they need an independent wedding planner, when the venue they’ve chosen for their celebrations comes with its own wedding coordinator.
‘Do you not both do the same job?’ they ask us.
Actually no!
To know which wedding professional can serve you best, you need to know the difference between a wedding venue coordinator and an individual wedding planner.
We’re always happy to clarify that while the titles may sound confusingly similar, in actual fact there is a major difference between what services the two offer.
While an on-site coordinator will take care of all the details related to what happens at the venue on the day of the wedding, their main priority won’t be to tailor the wedding to your exact needs. They will simply offer the same service they offer all wedding couples at their venue. (Usually a perfectly fine service, but without that extra-personal touch!)
A wedding planner, on the other hand, is the person you’ve personally chosen to oversee all aspects of your wedding celebrations, from start to finish, including your pre & post-wedding events, and who is completely focused on your wedding day. They will make sure everything flows smoothly and that all the vendors they’ve handpicked to match your vision & budget work together as one. Florists, caterers, photographers, musicians…a dedicated wedding planner will bring them all together seamlessly with no detail overlooked. This attention to detail ensures superb service all round.
Most venue coordinators would be happy to give you their recommendations for your wedding vendors but from then on, all communication with those vendors will be down to you, which is a task that’s sure to take up a lot of your precious time!
So, when our future bride & grooms ask if they still need to book a wedding planner if their venue already offers a wedding coordinator, our reply is always a definite ‘Yes!’
A venue coordinator has all operations onsite covered, from the venue’s perspective, and is very helpful for specific location issues, but for everything else you need a trusted planner by your side, who will bring your dream wedding to life with your philosophy….
In short…from the moment you hire your destination wedding planner, you have an experienced professional working with you every step of the way, with your very best interests at heart.
