One of the things we love most about our job as destination wedding planners (actually, we think of it more as our calling in life!) is working with our amazing couples to bring their destination wedding vision to life.
After securing the date for the big day (once it’s booked, it’s yours!), the next most important step is to find the perfect venue for your dream ceremony & reception. And then go all out with the decoration! Yay!
With such a wonderful diversity of out-of-this-world wedding venues waiting for you here in Crete & on the other heavenly Greek islands, we have a whole treasure-trove of gorgeous locales that we just adore sharing with our happy couples. Sun-drenched beaches, elegant villas, fairy-tale estates, rustic wineries, ancient fortresses, luxury hotels…each one is truly a gem in its own right!
It’s always such a thrill for us to show these fabulous venues to our brides & grooms and see the touching moment when they realise they’ve found The One! Always an emotional affair!
When it comes to venue selection & decoration, we always advise our couples that if they already have a deco style or theme in mind, then for maximum effect they should choose a venue that suits their particular concept. That way, everything will harmonise beautifully & create the perfect visual combination!
For the couples who haven’t yet decided on their décor choices, inspiration for their wedding decoration will come naturally from their stunning choice of venue because each one has its own special features & highlights.
They just need to be sure that their décor matches & compliments their venue & location perfectly. The right decoration will really accentuate the setting & take your wedding day visuals to a whole new level of awesomeness! That’s where we step in!
Here are a few suggestions for matching deco ideas with different venues:
A rustic venue, such as a traditional private estate is already blessed with nature’s finest decoration; lots of fresh greenery, majestic olives trees and rolling countryside. So embrace the natural surroundings, keep your decor simple and let the beauty of the natural environment shine through. Gold detail on wooden reception tables looks amazing when set out with linen napkins in pure white or your wedding colours, to create a stylish contrast. Work stunning displays of fresh or dried flowers into your rustic wedding décor and then create a romantic ambiance with twinkling fairy lights placed in the trees around the venue….the perfect style of lighting for this kind of wedding setting.
A charming donkey would be SUCH a cute guest at a laid-back, folksy wedding & would add a lovely authentic Greek touch. And he’d feel right at home in the cool shade of a rustic venue’s leafy setting! Leave his name OFF the invite list though if you’re going for a sun-kissed beach wedding…the hot sand is no place for his delicate little hooves!
See where we’re going with this?! It’s all about knowing which décor items are a MUST for certain wedding styles & which don’t suit others. You could say it’s an art!

A beach wedding on the warm golden sand beside the turquoise blue sea is made all the more beautiful with touches of tropical & ocean inspired detail and eye-catching blooms in vibrant shades of red, yellow & orange to complement the pale sand & shimmering azure sea. (Speaking of yellow….did you know that one of the Pantone colours of the year for 2021 is the gorgeous ‘Illuminating’? We think this warm, bright & cheerful yellow, inspired by the sun, would look amazing as part of the floral decoration on a beach wedding ceremony arch…
For a luxury hotel wedding, the stylish cool marble surroundings when combined with elegant gold decoration pieces such as an exquisite wedding arch, chic centrepieces, delicate gold cutlery & ritzy champagne flutes makes for a super-wow, palatial style wedding to die for!
If a luxurious villa wedding tempts you, then the lush gardens and surrounding nature can be decorated to enhance the villa’s colours. Warm wood & stone villas work well with dried flowers in earth tones while a cool, minimalistic white or grey villa looks fabulous with gold & silver and shades of blush. Flower walls with their cloudburst of blooms are an inspirational decoration feature for villa weddings and are always the perfect wedding photo backdrop.
We’ve been arranging ‘wow-factor’ destination weddings & making dreams come true for more than a decade so we know a thing or two about how to put the right venue and the right décor together to create ‘a match made in heaven!’
