Ruth & Emmet’s fairytale destination wedding took place beside the gentle waves on a beautiful sandy beach on the heavenly Greek island of Crete. The young Irish couple who now live in Australia chose this amazing Greek island to celebrate the happiest day of their lives with their beloved family & friends and their deep love for one another shone out for all to see!
The couple met on a surfing weekend while still living in Ireland and after two happy years together, with no thoughts yet of settling down, decided to make the move to Australia for a year in search of fun & adventure. Jump forward five years and they’re still there, still living their dream!
Then one unforgettable December evening in 2016, in the romantic setting of a balcony overlooking the azure sea and following an idyllic day of Pacific Ocean snorkeling, came Emmet’s heartfelt marriage proposal to Ruth. Truly a precious moment to cherish always…
For their fairytale wedding ceremony in Crete, a beautiful bamboo canopy with sand cultured gauze and white wooden benches for the guests complemented Ruth’s elegant wedding gown and her four gorgeous bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly. The delicate roses & baby’s breath in the bridal bouquet & bridesmaids posies blended in flawlessly with the beautiful natural surroundings of the beach in Crete. Baby’s breath was also part of the ceremony décor, aesthetically placed in glass mason jars in the warm sand at the end of each row of seating. The couple thoughtfully provided pretty fans & fun sunglasses for their guests, which everyone put to good use during the idyllic ceremony in the Cretan sunshine!
The planning began for their dream wedding in Crete and the couple were sure they both wanted a romantic beach wedding with a relaxed vibe for their big day. After their moving Greek island wedding ceremony, there followed a drinks reception on the beach to toast the newly-weds and then a fabulous wedding reception in the adjoining al-fresco restaurant with a delicious menu of local & international dishes. A lively beach party – always a hit at a destination wedding! – included the couple’s first dance and rounded off the celebrations with drinking & dancing until the early hours. Ruth and Emmet agreed that this had definitely been the best day of their lives, the perfect destination wedding ceremony & reception in Crete, exactly as they had wished it to be, down to the last fine detail. Their Cretan wedding dream had come true!
